Your donation will give children like these a brighter future
Every Monday thousands of rural mountain primary school children in South America make the long and often dangerous journey to school.
Sometimes they travel alone, often barefoot and sometimes with brothers and sisters, usually leaving their grandparents behind to look after the flocks of Llamas or on isolated farms whilst impoverished parents go to the cities to seek work.
They cross streams and rivers, climb crags and hills arriving at midday hungry, to eat maybe a bowl of cereal or drink water depending upon whether the teacher has sufficient in the tiny government budget of 20 pence per day to pay for food - or water that week if they have no well.
Water is free to schools but they have to pay for its transportation from the nearest towns or cities and those are often many miles away.
On Friday afternoons the children make the long journey home again, often having slept on the floor without beds or blankets, returning to help with the family.
They go to school to try to change their lives from the poverty of their families and to recieve a mid-day meal. Often they have to re-sit their grades time and time again as their minds are so underdeveloped due to longterm malnutrition.
Many schools do not have basic materials like pencils and paper. Dedicated & exhausted teachers who also live at the school struggle to make ends meet on tiny budgets.
These children need to be able to develop their potential to be able to make the wise choices as adults that will affect their future and the future of their country.
Please make your donation to CDUK knowing it will make a real difference. Thank you.
